Population Growth Causes and Effects


1. What is population growth?

→ The process of increasing change in the total number of people living within a certain geographic or administrative area is called population growth.

2. Briefly explain the causes of population growth.
→ * Illiteracy
- Due to illiteracy, people cannot get things like proper time to give birth, birth control, infant care, family planning. Due to this, people have more children and the population increases.
* Unemployment
→ If a person is all free then he has plenty of time to take care of the child. Because of this leisure, they are likely to have more children.
* Religious beliefs
→ Religion plays a positive role in maintaining discipline in the society, but due to religious beliefs, social evils can be created and the population can increase.
* Gender discrimination
→ There is still discrimination between men and women in the society. There is a widespread belief that a daughter needs to be left to look after herself in her old age as she gets married. This leads to the possibility of multiple births.
* Migration
- Due to migration, there is an increase in population at the destination.
* Health facilities
→ If the medicine and other health facilities needed by the citizens are available, the people will be healthy and the death rate will be low, which will lead to population growth.
